Who Are We?

Founded in 2012, Sinfonia Music Group was formerly known as Vella Cordina Music. In 2013, a full programm of rebranding was launched, and it was renamed as Sinfonia-where music is at hearts. In the mid of 2014 this programme had reached to an end, with the result being; that the name was now officially fixed to Sinfonia Music Group, while the previoue '-where music is at hearts' was reduced to a motto element. Also, as a result of this rebranding programme the enterprise has recognized its five sections that fall within; Da Camera Ensemble, Sinfonia School of Music, Sinfonix, Sinfonia Concert Orchestra, and Vella Cordina Music Libraries, with he sixth section; Sinfonia Vocal Ensemble being added a year later. Each of the sections is responsible for a particular running of the same enterprise; Sinfonia Music Group.

The main aim of Sinfonia Music Group is to promote music and culture through various ways that it comprises, such as education and the organization of events from time to time.

As its name defines; Da Camera Ensemble, is the section which is responsible for the organization of music is small an intimate settings. Being made up of four (4) or five (5) musicians accordingly, sometimes together with a conductor, this section specializes in purely classical repertoire; including works by European composers such as Johann Strauss II, and Jules Massenet, while exploring non-so-conventional works by Asian composers such as Toshio Masuda and Yiruma. Also, Da Camera Ensemble finds space in its repertoire for the exposure of new works by still-emerging composers by premiering their work. Furthermore, it sometimes organizes activities at a religious setting where it performers purely religious works, both local and international, together with the animation of various choirs.

Sinfonia School of Music is the backbone of all the enterprise. It keeps the running of the enterprise all year round with lessons of music at various courses being held at its base. Apart from preparing students for exams, both on local and international platforms, the school is interested in the general cultural upbringing of its students, and the general public. Also, as a matter of fact, at various different times of the year, it organizes workshops/open-classes for the general public to educate in some particular musical discipline. Such workshops have been both organized in exclusive or partnerships with other schools of performing-arts. Students from Sinfonia School of Music, from time to time also have the opportunity to expose their talents within the same enterprise, as part of the other section of the enterprise; Da Camera Ensemble, Sinfonix, and Sinfonia Concert Orchestra.

Although the general look of Sinfonia Music Group may mislead to an understanding that it is only concerned about the classical tradition of music, Sinfonix has the total opposite function at the enterprise, being oriented especially for the youths and the general public who do not intend so in the classical tradition with a pop-commercial repertoire. In fact, it is not only made up of traditional musicians but it comprises also the service of a DJ for popular parties.

The enterprise also holds within itself an orchestra; the Sinfonia Concert Orchestra. Although that the present Sinfonia Concert Orchestra emerged with the enterprise’s rebranding programme of 2013-2014, traces of it were already existent from the very start as a string orchestra. Presently, Sinfonia Concert Orchestra is made up of various musicians, both on fixed bases and on one-time-experience, who explore the orchestral classical repertoire. Its main activity is the organization of full-scale classical-concert productions.

Catering for all types of instrumental music, Sinfonia Music Group could not leave out an important element of music; the vocal element. Therefore with the establishment of the Sinfonia Vocal Ensemble in 2015, the enterprise tries to be self-served in all musical aspects needed. Although Sinfonia Vocal Ensemble is focused on the religious vocal repertoire, it also explores other semi-classical genres by various internationally renowned composers.

Vella Cordina Music Libraries is the only official sheet music supplier to Sinfonia Music Group. It is a library of both sheet music (music scores) as also of information on music and culture in general. Furthermore, as from 2015, it launched a new section within its own, an audio/visual library of musical productions. One of the functions of these libraries also, apart from supplying sheet music to the enterprise’s ensembles and orchestra, it helps the students of the school supply themselves with the needed workbooks and publications for their courses. Also the library, although it is private, it may be opened on occasions for public consultations by appointment. From time to time, together with Sinfonia School of Music, Vella Cordina Music Libraries organizes public lectures at free admittance for the general public to help in the musical and cultural education of our society and the general public at large.
